Art Show Application FAQ

How do I apply for the show?

Please visit www.arisia.org/ArtShowApplications to apply for the show.

Applications require a brief blurb about your art and a sample image of your work for consideration and use in our printed and online Catalog.

If possible, please also provide a link to a publicly accessible web site, Etsy shop, or the like, where we can preview additional material. Provided links will be included in the online version of the catalog.

How much space can I request?

Artists may request up to four panels, two tables, or a mix of panels and tables up to four.  The amount of space requested will not be considered during the curation process.  We will be selecting artists and allocating space to selected artists as separate steps.  We hope to give artists the full amount of space they request.  Due to limited availability, we may allocate less the requested amount.

I won an Art Show award at Arisia between 2016 and 2020.  Do I still have to use this process?

Artists who won Art Show awards at any of the last five Arisias are guaranteed acceptance to the show. However, you still must go through the application process and provide your image, blurb, and website by August 15.

I am unable to attend Arisia in person. Will asking for mail-in space or sending a representative to hang my work hurt my chances of getting space?

We will consider mail-in, agented artists, and in-person artists equally.

Will you still have a waiting list?

Yes, we will. Applying by August 15 will improve your chances of being taken off the wait list.

Will I have to pay in advance?

No, we'll collect payment once you are accepted.

When can I sign up?

Space requests are open now and close at midnight on August 15.

When will I find out if I am accepted?

Artists who applied by August 15 will be notified of their acceptance status no later than September 10.

When will I need to pay, if I am accepted?

Artists will have at least 30 days to pay after acceptance. Artists accepted from the waiting list may have less time as the convention approaches.

Is there anything else I should know about the Arisia Art Show?

  • Plenty of other information is available in the Rules and Fees.
  • If you are not familiar with science fiction art shows, there is a useful description on this page.
  • Anne E G Nydam took a nice photo of her art up on our panels.
  • Kristina Carroll has a blog entry with a nice pic of how prints hang in the show.
  • There's a great guide to photographing your art on Youtube. You don't need a fancy camera for this.

I thought you didn't want to jury the show?

We are sensitive to the diversity issues that selective shows can have. Our curation process is designed to ensure a diverse mix of artists in different styles and media to include something for everyone. In particular, we encourage amateur artists to apply to the show.
